Sorry for the lack of posts over the past few months.
This has been due to some rather unfortunate events lately. :-(

Fear not however as I should be back shortly!

It started off so promising too with the arrival of the replacement hard drive for the one in the server that was about to fail…

Replaced it, RAID kicked in and restored the data to the new drive..

Powered the server up, but nothing worked – no WDS, no MDT and no SCCM either

It took me all day to get WDS and MDT working again (removal and reinstall of WDS and reconfiguration of MDT then copy the old info into the new location..)

SCCM is a different story.. Restored it from backup and got back into the MMC – big step forward, but not yet sure if its actually working though!!

Find out on Monday I guess….

As with my previous post about the failing SMART Hard Drive, I have spent the last couple of days trying to backup the data to an external Hard Drive.. whilst keeping all the necessary NTFS permissions intact.

Robocopy doesn’t work even with the /SEC /MIR /COPYALL switches enabled

However XCopy appears to be the way to go with this..

xcopy source destination /s /e /x /c /q /h /k /i /r /Y

where source is the path of the file or folder (either as a local drive or a UNC) you want to copy

and destination is the path of the file or folder (either as a local drive or a UNC) you want to put the copied files or folders..

Works a treat!

Walked into work this morning after the Christmas break to find this error on my Deployment and SQL Server..

smart_apps01_2

Thankfully it looks like I found it early enough as there was no data corruption on the server.. Just need to back it all up and order a new Hard Drive…

Hopefully this controversial law will be kicked into touch..

TalkTalk and BT have been granted judicial review of the Digital Economy Act by the High Court.

A judge will now scrutinise whether the act is legal and justifiable, and could make wide-ranging recommendations.
